Last week at The Rise, we played rock-paper-scissors in Brooklyn; took some popsicles with our obstacles on the Willy B; and had our first Wednesday Wings Night! Curious? Read the recap!
Our HIIT workouts are perhaps the simplest in theory, but one of the hardest in practice. According to my math, the 20 seconds of exercise is DOUBLE the 10 seconds of rest we’re allotted. How cruel!
But as cruel as it is, we got the job done. Shoutout to the crew below for making it happen!
Brooklyn Body Circuit was a blast. We started off the day with rock-paper-scissors. Winner does sit ups, loser takes a lap ’round the fountain. Some folks did a lot of sit ups. Others did a lot more running. But by the look on these Risers’ faces it seems like everybody won!
We then followed this game up with the usual Brooklyn-style circuits, with some twists – including a game of “red and black”. If I draw a black card, those whom I assigned ‘black’ sprint to the arch and back, while those whom I assigned ‘red’ skip halfway and run back. Everyone gave it their all!
We’re at Grand Army Plaza smiling every Tuesday at 6:30 AM. Come get some!
Last Tuesday was portrait day at the Queens Warriors workout – or so it seems from the photos! Lots of abdominal exercises kept these Risers on the ground.
If anyone knows how greet Tuesday with a smile, it’s the Queens Warriors (and the Brooklyn badasses – but we’ve already talked about them…)
MacDonald Park is the only spot we hit up twice a week. Catch us Tuesdays and Thursdays – 6:30 AM!
Twas just your average Wednesday Rise with plenty of sweat, smiles, and high fives!
We took on a deck of cards, the ball bag challenge, and the final, soul-crushing enduro challenge. This week’s enduro was a heck lot of Russian twists and bicycle crunches. The audience gave it at least one thumb up – though rumor has it any downward-facing thumbs changed course by the time 7 AM arrived.
This group came out to crush it – and crush it they did! To get in some future crushing – join us every Wednesday at 6:30 AM at Bryant Park!
At our Hills workout, we took on obstacles! This time, our runners got a notecard that told them what exercises to do on the way up the Willy B.
Chad knows that the only thing more important than running Hills is providing the chills. No, not the feverish kind. We’re talking Fla.vor.ice!
Awesome workout y’all! See you at the next Friday Hills for Anything Goes!
Wednesday Wings Night!!
Last but not least, we had a special evening workout at North 5th Street park, followed by wings night at Croxley’ Ale House in Williamsburg! This was the closest we’ve been to having a workout on the Brooklyn side of the Willy B, so you could imagine our excitement!
We were also excited because the OY/YO statue is here!
So whenever one of us yelled “OY”, the rest of us were obligated to reply “YO!” It was a thing of magic.
We started off with some tabata, moved into a team exercise segment, did some benchwork together, and wrapped up with a sit-up burnout for this month’s challenge.
After a family photo…
Off we went for wings and beer!
Some of our Risey friends joined us just for the wings part in their fancy schmancy non-workout clothes (PS this is totally acceptable).
Stay tuned for the next wings night! #HighFiveSocial
PS – Rumor has it that Rise NYC co-founder and rucking enthusiast Dave Johnson himself made an appearance later in the night – but only those who show will know! #NoPicsButMayHaveHappened
