Squash Those Squashes

Risers! The second week of our squat challenge is here! 100 squats a day, Monday through Friday until the 28th of April. How are you doing? Are your glutes tingling with glee? Or do you wish you were on a glute-n free diet?

If you’re having trouble getting motivated, you may just be intimidated by the word “squat”. Maybe one time you saw a gym rat collapse under the weight of a heavy barbell while attempting an overhead tippy-toe variation, and now you associate the word with pain and agony.

So if you don’t like the word “squat”, you’ll just have to use a different word! May I suggest squash?

That’s right…

Squash

A sport that involves hitting a ball off the walls of an indoor court. It’s like racquetball, except it’s nothing like racquetball. It would be SO fun to hit a squash ball 100 times a day for a Rise challenge!

Squash

A delicious fruit that often gets cooked like a vegetable. I’d argue that “butternut squash” is the most pleasant phrase in the English language.

Here’s a recipe I found online for butternut squash soup. Imagine eating 100 spoonfuls of this a day, Monday through Friday, until the end of April!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, chopped
  • 2 medium potatoes, cubed
  • 1 medium butternut squash – peeled, seeded, and cubed
  • 1 (32 fluid ounce) container chicken stock
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Directions

  • Melt the butter in a large pot, and cook the onion, celery, carrot, potatoes, and squash 5 minutes, or until lightly browned. Pour in enough of the chicken stock to cover vegetables. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover pot, and simmer 40 minutes, or until all vegetables are tender.
  • Transfer the soup to a blender, and blend until smooth. Return to pot, and mix in any remaining stock to attain desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper.

Squash

What you’re about to do to this challenge, and the reasons you’ve come up with for not completing it. Squash those squashes – 100 per day. Find a way around all your excuses and get them done!

Join us tomorrow in Brooklyn and Queens to get Tuesday’s butternut squashes over with before 7 AM.

RISE UP!
