When I first moved to the city, it didn’t take long for me to figure out that I belonged in Brooklyn. These days I love making the morning pilgrimage to The Rise in Manhattan from BK, but it wasn’t always this way. The extra early wakeup times, the cold runs and the sleepy train rides can get you down sometimes. With the help of some awesome people, I got to be stronger than those excuses, but it sure wasn’t easy. I always thought it might be something that put my fellow Brooklynites off the whole early morning workout thing.
Why am I telling you this? I’m not sure. I thought you asked? And what are you all doing here anyway?
Actually, I’m here to tell you about an exciting new chapter for us: The Rise, BK! If you call anywhere from the Heights to the Slope down to Coney Island your home, then your Tuesday mornings are about to get a whole lot sweatier and more awesome.
What’s the deal?
It’s simple. Same Rise workouts, new (sexier) borough. All of our workouts at The Rise have the same goal: using public space and our own body weight to build both aerobic fitness and strength. That means lots of burpees, pushups, sprints and core body exercises. 30 minutes of exhausting, brilliant, sweaty friendship.
When do we start?
Now! We’ve been doing the workouts Every Tuesday at 6:30am beneath the Soldiers and Sailors Arch in Grand Army Plaza, just north of Prospect Park. This will be our time and location for now, but there are some exciting potential new locations on the horizon. As always, get at us on Facebook or Meetup to stay on top of the schedule.
But I live in North Brooklyn, boo!
The G can suck, I know. I’m sorry. Ride there! Run there! Be good to BK and she’ll be good to you. You never know, a North Brooklyn Rise could be in our not-too-distant future.
Same workout. New Location. Got it? Go get it! Find out if you have what it takes to be a BK Badass.
